NHS England this week announced a further consultation on items which should not routinely be prescribed in primary care.

This consultation will review and update guidance issued to CCGs in November 2017, see link. (Not to be confused with the guidance on conditions for which over-the-counter products should not be routinely prescribed in primary care, which was issued to CCGs in March 2018).

NHS England and NHS Clinical Commissioners have identified a number of further products which fall under one or more of the criteria outlined in section 1.4 of the guidance as well as proposing an update to guidance issued in November 2017 for Rubefacients.

The consultation is open until 28 February 2019, and NHS England is running a series of meetings and webinars.
